ANDREW JONES
EDITOR
International wine writer and broadcaster, Andrew Jones, aka the Flying Wine Man, travels the world to visit
wineries, make broadcasts and discover the finest values.
Andrew has received various awards and honours including the Glenfiddich Gold Medal for wine trade
journalism and intronisation into France's oldest wine order, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Sacavin. Over the past 7 years he has had 4 books published, specialising in the history, romance and characters
from the world of wine and drink. His first book, a handsome volume called The Stories Behind the Labels, was short-listed for the Prix Lanson. Other books include the extremely popular Wine Talk
, which was followed by Whisky Talk and The Aperitif Companion. All his books make easy reading and bring fun to a world of wine and drink that many treat too seriously. His most recent
work is Wine Fact and Fiction, which was launched in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the UK in 2003.
Andrew has also made video and audio programmes for labels in 10 countries and
wrote and co-produced the series Ten Green Bottles as seen on the Discovery Channel.
IN THE US
Andrew first emerged in the USA in the mid-eighties, where he was quickly dubbed 'The Flying Wine Man' after comparisons in quickfire broadcasting style with 'The
Galloping Gourmet', Graham Kerr. Using his natural ability as a storyteller, he relates the history, romance and characters associated with labels around the globe. His
Royal stories, based on real wine involvements with some of the British royal family, are extremely popular. Andrew has completed a successful US TV and Radio Tour this
year. He appeared on over 15 TV stations and on radio he was heard on many of America's biggest stations from KGO San Francisco to CRN Los Angeles to KMOX St Louis and WOR New York.
IN THE UK
From 1984 – 1994 Andrew was the weekly wine voice on LBC Radio in London. Now he broadcasts his popular Radio Postcards to some 25 UK local radio stations from
wine cellars across the world. In 2005 he will make over 100 in person appearances on radio stations throughout the country, answering listeners' queries and recommending
value for money wines. He is in great demand as a speaker at wine-themed weekends/evenings and at corporate events. Andrew is currently presenting the
popular Vine & Dine Weekends at Hayley Conference Centres across the country. He is also involved in leading small group wine tours to the Minervois region of Southern France.
Andrew is currently retained as Historical Research Consultant by the prestigious Taylor's Port house where he is collating the history of Croft Port.
Andrew is the son of an American father, now deceased, who was raised in Illinois,
and a Welsh mother. He is a committed Christian and lives in Kent with his wife, Branwen and son Huw.
